Some actors take years to rise; others just need one moment and boom! They light up the entire K-drama universe. On that table is Lee Jae Wook sitting prettily.
The actor was born on May 10, 1998 in Seoul, and this tall and charming heartthrob didn’t take long to stamp his name in our hearts. His journey began in 2018 with “Memories of the Alhambra,” where he showed up as a hacker: Marco Han. It’s best to say he hacked more than just systems because our hearts were compromised too!
By 2019, he was already serving major second-lead syndrome as Baek Kyung in ‘Extraordinary You,’ a high school drama, and making a cameo in Search: ‘WWW.’ Viewers couldn’t get enough of his loving and different charm that one couldn’t help but notice, and neither could award shows ignore his aura. He bagged the ‘Best New Actor’ title at the MBC Drama Awards and a Baeksang nomination. Which is totally not bad for a rookie.
That same year, he jumped into films with ‘The Battle of Jangsari.’ clearly, he was not here to play safe; he took on every project and they were worth it. He also appeared in ‘When the Weather is Fine’ and ‘Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol,’ and made a cameo in ‘True Beauty,’ ‘Kiss Sixth Sense,’ and ‘Kill Bokson.’
Fast forward to 2022, where he made his worldwide debut with ‘Alchemy of Souls’. Lee Jae-Wook transformed into Jang Uk, the spoiled but intelligent brat of the powerful Jang family who got his spell abilities locked by his father until he met Naksu, who opened his gate of energy. Everyone couldn’t get enough of the naughty master Uk and the daring maid Mudeok.
Season two of ‘Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow,’ which aired in 2023 showed another side of Jang Uk, the moody, powerful mage who saw Hades and came back to become a cold and unbeatable mage in the entire Daeho. His aura, charm, and voice were so powerful and had us screaming at our screens every episode. His performance earned him ‘Best Actor’ and the ‘Global Excellence Award’ at the Asia Artist Awards. It didn’t stop there because of that drama? It was known to be a whole cultural reset.
Although some of the fans felt disappointed with the plotline of ‘The Impossible Heir,’ the drama he took on after the worldwide success, he came back in 2025 to make up for it. Just when we thought he couldn’t top the best he had so far, he gave us ‘Dear Hongrang,’ which was his first full-blown historical drama without fantasy elements. And let’s just say… he didn’t come to play; he came to slay. With every sword swing and intense stare, fans were ready to crown him the Crown Prince of Historical K-Dramas, and yes, he does deserve it.
On TikTok, he’s being called “Unmatched with a sword.” And don’t even get us started on his aerodynamic moves. Who knew slicing the air could look so elegant?
He admitted, “I’ve never done a full-length historical drama that isn’t fantasy before,” but from the way he owned that hanbok and galloped into danger like a royal boss, you’d never know he’s a newbie at such. When he picks up a sword, it's calm, deadly, but regal.
He also has a wide acting range and expression. Whether he's heartbroken in romance, sarcastic in fantasy, or stoic in history dramas, he transforms like a chameleon without losing his charm. His Height and visuals are also contributors to why we cannot help but fall for him because, let’s be honest, he wears those traditional outfits like they were custom-tailored for him from heaven. Whenever he appears in them, he’s so tall, handsome, and commanding.
His on-screen chemistry is also top-notch. He doesn’t just act but connects with all his female leads. His chemistry with Go Youn Jung, Jung So Min, and Jo Bo Ah had fans wishing for real-life shipping. Is all this surprising? No! He studied film and theater at Chung-Ang University, so it’s clear that he had the right training and a sexy brain to match.
Those who know him describe him as humble, thoughtful, and incredibly hardworking. He’s not just an actor but one with purpose. From slashing through battlefields to making us cry with one look, Lee Jae-Wook has earned his throne rightfully. Fans adore his emotional performances, charming presence, and the fact that he chooses diverse, powerful roles every time.
Whether you met him in fantasy, fell for him in high school, or pledged your loyalty in historical romance, one thing’s for sure: Lee Jae-Wook has a lot to dish out for you. If you haven’t seen any of his dramas, now go binge his dramas. You know you want to and we are here to receive your feedback.
